The Muse-Claire Budzinski

So, Throughout the whole semester I've had trouble connecting with my 'muse'. I don't know whether it's because I'm just not that creative when it comes to writing poetry or if it's because I find it hard to write a poem unless I'm really inspired to do so. In the beginning of the semester, on one of the first days of class when we were assigned a poem to write in class just about objects or pictures, I didn't have a clue of where to start, I felt that writing a poem about an object was really forced and I couldn't really connect with the object enough to write a whole poem about it. This made me feel very discouraged and I didn't know whether I was ever going to be able to write a good poem or not. The next time we had class, we were assigned to write poems about music and to be inspired by the songs that we were listening to. When we did this, I felt like this was one of the only times that I was really able to connect with my 'muse'. I've always had a strong connection to music and I felt very inspired by writing this type of poem. I also came across another time in which I felt inspired to write and that was when something happened that made me feel strongly about something or someone or something happened that made me feel very emotional and I wanted to just let all of my thoughts out into a poem. Other than these few times, I've found it difficult to just 'connect with my muse' in order to write a poem.

  1. Muse work was new to me, but I fell into it. I never really felt like it was a spirit or anything, all I did was write whatever random crap that I had buzzing around in the back of my mind. You mentioned when McCoy showed us those pictures, I wrote a very weird poem that day about the Nude Descending a Staircase that basically stemmed from me not being able to figure out what the picture was.

  2. I can definitely agree with you about the Muse being new, since it was new to me too. I remember the first day of class when we had to write on the pictures, I only described what I saw in the picture and was only colors and images on a piece of paper, which didn’t make sense to me until later on in the semester when I revised it and made it into something worthwhile. As stated in a previous post I cannot connect to my Muse unless it is during a time where I do not have a pen and paper handy which doesn’t seem very convenient, but I realized when I did the poets for the presentation it was easier to write using my Muse for my two poems I presented.
