revising your own poems

being in writing classes before i always thought it was somewhat easy to revise my work. of course that work was in essay form or stories and not poetry. just the fact that its poetry and art in word form makes it harder for you the creator to see what doesn't make sense in the poem at times. over the break I started the process of revising for the portfolio assignment and even taking in the advice from the teacher and the others in class its hard to change something that you feel was almost really great. and the fact that you have to almost tear apart something that you considered art is one of the most difficult things anyone can do. it could just be me not being accustomed to writing and revising poetry but all i know is its not the easiest thing in the world to do picking apart something that you created and put together as is apart of you now. but it is a learning experience like this whole class is. outside of writing a story or a script to a movie writing poetry has to be the most enjoyable writing styles out there. of course if you hit writers block then all writing is the biggest pain.
