Workshop Thoughts
I really liked doing workshop in class. At first I did not know how I felt about it, I admit I was very nervous the first time because I did not know what to expect and I was not confident with my poem. I always felt as if my peers were not going to like my poems and give me harsh criticisms about what I wrote. Two of the poems I shared were very personal and hard for me to share with the class because they were about something that hurt me in the past. But once I read them out loud and received everyones feedback, I felt good and able to revise my poems to make them better. I see that I struggle a little bit sometimes writing poetry because I tend to write a lot of free verse that becomes slam poetry after a while. I think the reason behind this is because I really enjoy Spoken Word Poetry that when I listen to the poets speak I get inspired to write like them. I am glad that we had workshop and that I had the opportunity to read my poems out loud and get criticized on them. This is helping me overcome my fear of public speaking as well as helping me grow as a writer.
