Just Some Thoughts....

Overall, I must say that I have learned a great deal from this class. I really see myself growing as a writer. Now when I write, I always want to try to add some form of literary elements. I never used to worry about adding any elements into my writing, I used to just write whatever came to my mind. I really liked the exercises we did in this class that were related to the poets we were learning about. It put me in the position to try to mimic such a great poet. One of my favorite exercises was when we listened to music and wrote poetry related to the music we were listening to. Both me and my roommate are taking this class, and we did the exercise that was given for homework together to the same song. The ideas she came up with, and the ideas I came up with were completely different but went perfect with the melody of the song we used. I found this class to be challenging to for me, this is because I am not used to writing in a certain form or style. When writing for this class, I had to really think about what I was trying to say, in order for it to match the exercise we were doing. It challenged me for the better and I'm glad that I decided to take this class.

  1. I have to agree with you that this class has really helped me expand as a writer. Before this class I would also just write whatever came to my mind and I would write it however it seems to flow the best to me. Now that I actually know some literary elements I try harder to add them into my poems. Also now I have a tendency to add some literary elements into my poems without really setting out to do so. It very much helps you write better poetry and really expand your range of your poems. I would also say that one of my favorite excerises from class is the one where we had to listen to music and write what you see. I liked the challenge of it because since I am a dancer I almost always only saw people dancing and I had to try to put that down on paper which was a lot of fun.
