Presentations- Claire Budzinski

So, for my presentations that I did in class last week were of Shel Silverstein and Robert Lewis Stevenson. First of all, I really enjoyed reading the work of both of these poets. I was very familiar already, with Shel Siverstein because he was my favorite poet as a child and I loved reading all of his books with my mom and sister. His poems are very whimsical and fun to read. I also enjoyed using some of his work as an example for my own work. I really enjoyed writing children's poetry. It was really fun to do and didn't feel forced to me, maybe because I'm still really just a kid at heart. I think that is also why I chose both of my poet's collections to be their children's poetry. I really enjoyed poems as a kid because of the way they rhyme and have a sing-songy feel to them and I would love to write poems for my kids some day. Also, I'm going to be an elementary school teacher someday so I feel like connecting with children's poetry was so much fun for me and also I got to pick out some really good poems that I will be able to read to my class someday. I also enjoyed Robert Lewis Stevenson's poems. I liked how they all had a really cool nature vibe to them which i thought was very fitting for children because kids love to be outside frolicking and playing and that's the feel that I got from his poems. I think that children would also really love reading his book of poems, "A Child's Garden of Verses" because it has beautiful and intricate paintings intertwined with the poems that run across both pages and it just so pretty and something that children would really love. I enjoyed doing this presentation project because I was able to read poems that I really liked and that inspired me to write!

  1. I love that you did Shel Silverstein! I was going to do him too, but couldn't find any of my books of his over Thanksgiving :(
