After the workshops i have realized that my addiction to Spoken Word Poetry has effected my work. I was first introduced to Def Poetry Jam by one of my high school teachers and ever since i have spent most of my time either watching it, or saving it to my ipod so i could listen to it later on. I love how the poetry seems so creative and yet still holds the power of truth and reality. I remember my sophomore year the only thing that got me through was my youtube def poetry jam videos. I would come in on some days and listen to it so much that I began to know most of the words in the ones I watched. One that I felt I could really relate to is “ Try Being a Lady” by Sista Queen. From the first time I heard it I fell in love and whenever I think about Spoken Poetry or get into my poetry sessions it is always a repeat on my playlist.
