Revision's

A lot of my poetry happens to have a spoken word feel to it. I am trying hard to come out of my element but for some reason it is as if I am pulling teeth. Though I have written a lot of poetry I have never went back to revise any of them. I have always tried to keep my poems as is just to keep the rawness but I have seen that most of them do need revisions. I didn’t think that it would be as hard as it is, sometimes I get so caught up most of my work comes out in two different thoughts and by the time I’m done I don’t even remember what I first started writing about. I think my biggest problem is my lack of descriptions and punctuation. Mostly when I write poetry I write a lot of free write which I am trying to branch out of and hopefully I have succeeded.

  1. I myself have found it hard to revise my poems as well. It is hard to remove what is written and change or even delete it, it feels as if I am deleting or revising my emotions not my words.
Yet through this course I have been able to being to step back and revise the words in-order to better express what I would like to say. That doesn't mean however that it is any easier.

  2. I have a similar out look on revision. I feel like revising my work is damaging to my original thoughts and emotions and we are never really taught in school to revise poems. After taking this class however I see the importasnce in revision and that a lot of my work can be taken to a new level with revison.
