Poetry Class

I have absolutely loved taking this poetry class. It has been so helpful to be able to share my poetry and get really great feedback on it. The idea of workshop terrified me at first and I was not looking forward to it at all. It ended of being very exciting and fun though. Sharing poetry is such a personal thing, but doing so really allows oneself to grow as a poet. It strengthens the breath and thought to each poem and allows for one to see spots for revision along with deepening the meaning in the work. Knowing I would have to share with the class, I would take longer writing each poem, criticizing it as much as I could to try to make it perfect. After workshop I would take my poem and look it over, reading each comment and thinking about how to revise it. I have never been so excited to make revisions before. I actually really sad the class is going to be over soon. I have learned so much and am so excited to apply all the different forms and elements to future poems. On another note, I'm really glad we were forced to read two collections of poetry. Getting into another poet's work so deeply, really helped in gaining a new focus and developing new ideas to write poetry. I never really thought about how reading poems from another poet could influence my work so thoroughly. I should read more collections more often.
