Addicted

Has anyone else experienced a new addiction to writing poetry? I've been working on my final portfolio and I find time just flying by because I get so into it and want everything to be perfect. I find myself critiquing them all, like we have done in workshop, leaving comments on them like I would for other peers. This has helped me to improve on my writing a lot. I also want to point out that ever since I started this class and really got into writing on a daily basis, I have found that it is actually really therapeutic. It's kind of humorous because the poetry final is helping me de-stress during the upcoming finals week. I wind up taking breaks from my studying to just write from my muse and afterwards I feel refreshed. What comes out during that break is usually a pretty good basis for a poem too because of the different techniques we have learned in class and my recent practice of them. Overall, my point of this whole blog post is to basically point out that, not only did I really enjoy this poetry class but I also got a lot out of it in many different ways. I enjoy writing on a whole new level and really think that I have improved more then I thought I would after taking this class.

  1. I feel the same way. I've found myself writing notes of lines I can use at a later date on my study guides and in class. I've written some of my best muse work while I was supposed to be listening to my professors. Its not intentional, but when the words come it feels necessary to go with what the muse has given you.

  2. I felt this way for two thirds of the semester. I found myself always wanting to write a new poem. It got to the point that ideas were popping into my head during class and it was hard to concentrate on the style of poetry that we were supposed to be working on that day. Talk about messing up my muse.

  3. I know how that is. I always like poetry but the new way of looking at it gave me all sorts of new inspiration to work with. I write lil notes or a few lines on scraps of paper or even just something a person said that spikes some sort of connection I want to write about. Inspiration is everywhere an my muse is always looking for somthing to do. Its great to actually enjoy writing poetry enough so that it isn't just in cases of extreme emotion but merly because I love it.

  4. Ha as soon as I read this and the comment I knew I was addicted. I do the same thing, and have had times when I'm lying in bed and have to jump up and get my notebook open because I thought of something great.
