Workshop

I have learned a lot from participating in workshop. Not only have I gained the courage to present my poems in front of others and have them critiqued, I have also been able to improve my writing as a whole. Workshop made me realize that many of my poems are lacking important details that they need to really make my writing come to life. I also learned that it is fairly easy to add many of the aspects of the poetry language (Simile, Metaphor, Personification, etc.) to my writing, as it comes very natural with practice.

My favorite part of workshop was reading and listening to other students’ poems. This really opened my eyes to how everyone’s writing is different, but great at the same time. Reading others poems also gave me many new and exciting ideas for my own writing that I would probably not have thought of otherwise. This led me to read and explore more of other poets work in order to expand my own writing. I really enjoy this way of sparking ideas for my poems, as it creates many new stories for my writing.

Although I learned a lot about poetry from workshop, I was definitely skeptical of the process at first. But during the first round of workshop, I realized that it was going to be a really laid back experience. Everyone had great critiques for my poem, and they were able to express them in a nice way. I was also able to learn a lot from their comments and realize a lot about my writing that I would not have been aware of otherwise. Workshop has definitely helped to improve my writing as a whole, and I hope it continues to get better in the future.
