Concrete Concrete Concrete

I find it difficult a lot of times to write something concrete. I really enjoy leaving everything up to the reader's imagination. I feel like it helps them get more emotionally involved, that is if they're not confused. My favorite poems are the ones where I don't have a clue whats going on but its jammed with so much emotion that my imagination takes me on one trip to another, putting myself into any situation that fits. With such poems being my favorite to read, its hard to find that balance. I'm trying to inject a little more concrete detail into my poems while keeping it allusive. Does everyone like it concrete?

  1. I agree, I like the abstract so my imagination can run wild. There are instances where concrete details are required but I like reading and writing abstract alot more. It's hard to insert concrete details when talking about emotion.

  2. I feel exactly the same way. Even reading poetry of most famous poets you notice that the reader has to make the connection. Being concrete in details about scenery or sensory elements is necessary, but when writing about the subject of the poem I like to leave some of the details out. This really leaves it up to the reader to make their own assumptions. It creates a mysterious effect.
