Spoken word poetry

This is Asia, a spoken word poet. Spoken word poetry involves the poet reciting their poetry, usually projecting alot of feeling. Poetry generally seems to be about things they've gone through. I've met this guy twice and love his stuff. Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBR0tNtnRxw

  1. Wow. That is a very powerful poem. I feel as though many people can relate to that, whether they have gone through cancer or have sat by and watched their loved ones suffer through it. The best part of this particular poem is that he shares his raw emotions. Loved it!

  2. I think this was great! He did an awesome job at adding feeling to it. I believe people will be able to relate to it, whether its cancer related or not. My favorite part of the whole piece was his ending line, "sometimes you have to lose a part of you to find your whole self." It just has so much meaning & everyone can translate it differently. I loved it!

  3. His commanding sense of urgency is what draws me into the performance the most. This poem almost smacks you in the face with reality. It seems as though he is letting out a controlled rage that is carefully articulated. I also appreciated how he added some humor in the face of the painful emotions he expresses.

  4. I really enjoyed listening to his poem, the raw intensity. It is fear, humor, and finding oneself. It is real. Having the poet speak it, adds to the poem, it makes it more raw than if you just were to read it.
